Facebook Express
The Social network giant brand Facebook partners with coollink: Cheap wifi hotspot
coming soon...
Following the recent changes to
improve its services and grant easy access to it users, facebook here again
plans to introduce wifi hotspots around Lagos called Express Wifi. This i
believe is as a result of its successful launch in India, hence it is also
coming to Nigeria. This program is to be launched fully this week, though it is
currently being used in some areas such as Ikota Shopping Centre in Lagos.
Facebook hopes to expand this service as it increases its coverage. As stated
above, this big project is in partnership with the local Nigerian internet
service provider called Coollink.
According to this statements
culled from a review by Mark ZukerBerg, it states:
_"ExpressWifi by Facebook is
a new program that lets phone owners purchase data from local internet service
providers. Effectively, Facebook is providing software that helps local ISPs
and entrepreneurs sell and provide internet service in rural areas, which can
be accessed via public Wi-Fi hotspots. Besides being a source of cheap
internet, the program is also designed as a means of empowering entrepreneurs
who get the Wifi equipment (including a 1Kva inverter) setup for free and make
a 15% commission on each ExpressWifi data plan sale..."_
Users who intends to use the
express wifi service will have the opportunity of browsing their free basic
platforms at a free cost if they are within the service coverage areas but
accessing regular sites outside the free basic platform would attract costs.
The Express Wifi hotspots will
have service speeds of 10Mbps. Subscription plans starts from a low ranged cost
to a high one. Specifically, N40 to N1600 respectively. The costs for their
plans includes:
(1) 100mb at the rate of N40,
valid for 24hrs only.
(2) 300mb at the rate of N110,
valid for 24hrs only.
(3) 700mb at the rate of N270
valid for 7days only.
(4) 2gb at the rate of N700, valid
for 7days only.
(5) 3gb at the rate of N1000,
valid for 30days only.
(6) 5gb at the rate of N1600,
valid for 30days only.
These are very nice plans that
could serve the heavy internet users efficiently. Hopefully, as time goes on,
there would be greater plans coming up to make its services cheaper and better.
To test express wifi, one can
register or signup for a 14 days trial package (given access to 100MB per day
but coverage areas are yet to be announced) through HERE after which one is at liberty to subscribe or unsubscribe from its
service.
